The moment I stepped onto that bus bound for Fort Portal, I knew my life would never be the same. It was a crisp, promising morning, and as I settled into a cozy window seat, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation. The journey unfurled before me like a scenic tapestry, weaving through the vibrant towns of Kyenjojo and depositing me in the heart of Fort Portal.
As we ventured deeper into the countryside, I was struck by an overwhelming sense of awe. The breathtaking beauty of my homeland left me speechless. I turned to my fellow passengers, my heart overflowing with excitement, and exclaimed, “IS THIS UGANDA?” They looked at me with quizzical expressions, but I was far from delusional. I was simply captivated by the sheer magnificence of my own country.
Until that moment, I had harbored dreams of seeking greener pastures abroad, a phenomenon we locals call “Kyeyo.” I had convinced myself that my dreams lay beyond Uganda’s borders. But that bus ride ignited a spark within me, a realization that the adventure I craved was not far away; it was right here, in my own homeland.
